Based in Chicago, GreenChoice Bank will be the first green community bank in the Midwest. We are dedicated to offering a better choice in banking for consumers and businesses and will do so via a relationship-driven approach to banking. We will be a federal savings bank with our deposits insured by the FDIC.

At our core, GreenChoice Bank will be a community bank, with all of the products and services you expect to see at your local financial institution, but our “green” and sustainable mission has informed each and every aspect of the Bank’s organization, structure, products and processes, including:

Advantaged loan and deposit products that reward our customers for making Green Choices

A commitment to operate in sustainably built branches (with our flagship location at the Green Exchange and seeking LEED Platinum certification – the highest level of LEED certification that one can obtain). New branches will be built green, branches we acquire will be evaluated for retrofitting.

Minimal waste in back office operations through paperless processes, electronic document distribution, image-based check processing, online banking and e-statements

Employee policies that encourage sustainable choices including using public transportation to get to work, volunteering in the community, as well as rewarding those who choose to purchase hybrid or other Low Emission Fuel Efficient (LEFE) vehicles

Staff that believe in our mission and are knowledgeable about sustainability, including 50% of our senior management team who are LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED AP)

A suite of Green Choices that we will share with all our clients to provide ideas of things that each of us can do to make small changes with BIG impacts towards a greener, more healthy planet

Above all, we will focus on supporting the local community, fostering green collar job creation and growth, and improving the sustainable business economy in the areas that we serve.

Walking the walk

As a partner to the sustainable business community, we understand the challenges of implementing sustainability initiatives because we’re going through the same process ourselves! We are commencing operations by acquiring an existing bank and going through the process of “cleaning up and greening up” the business to GreenChoice’s standards. The bank we are acquiring has a 100-year history of serving its community, and we expect to carry on that tradition while positioning the bank for a sustainable future.

We completed the acquisition of the bank, called Family Federal Savings of Illinois, in July 2010 and anticipate launching GreenChoice Bank in the second half of 2010.
